Breakfast with Santa; Girls' Night Out Fundraiser; Hurricane Sandy Fundraising Efforts

Here are five things you need to know today, Nov. 29.

1. Somers Natives Make Honor Roll

Congratulations to Somers native Natalie Wizel, member of the Muhlenberg College women’s soccer team, who has been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for excellence in the classroom and on the field.

Bucky Aronoff, member of the Muhlenberg College men’s soccer team, has also been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for excellence in the classroom and on the field.

2. Organic Yard Waste Facility Special Access Permit Extended 

The permit fee for contractors will be waived through Dec. 21 to dispose of logs and branches at the Organic Yard Waste Facility in Yorktown. Residents must download and complete the “Special Access Permit” which must be given to the attendant at the Yard Waste Facility. Click here to download the permit.

3. Yorktown Lions and American Legion Breakfast with Santa

Breakfast with Santa will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Yorktown American Legion, located at 235 Veterans Road. There are three available seatings – 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The cost is $7 for children ages 3 to 12 and $9 for children ages 13 and over. 4. Girls' Night Out Fundraiser

The Yorktown Empire State Huskies 18u Gold Team is hosting Girls' Night Out on Friday, Nov. 30 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Mohopac Firehouse. Advance tickets are $20 includes music, wine, cheese, food sampling. For more information and tickets email babs220@aol.com.

5. State Monitors Hurricane Sandy Fundraising Efforts

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, New York State is keeping an eye on the many fundraising efforts launched in the name of helping victims of the superstorm. Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman said his office has sent letters to 75 nonprofits requesting information on their fundraising and relief activities related to Hurricane Sandy. Click here for more details.
