Somers Lions Concert Benefitting Friends of Karen
When/Where: Sunday, Dec. 9 from 2 p.m.t o 4 p.m. at the Somers Middle School Auditorium
Why Go: A contemporary Big Band with a diverse playbook is coming to Somers to help raise money for Friends of Karen, a non profit organization which provides emotional, financial and advocacy support to children with a life-threatening illness and their families.

When/Where: Lake Mohegan Fire Department Candy Cane run on Saturday, Dec. 8 and Sunday, Dec. 9; and Yorktown Height Fire Company Candy Cane Run on Sunday, Dec. 9

Why Go: It's that wonderful time of the year again, and Santa will be making his way around town with the Yorktown Heights Fire Department volunteer firefighters and Lake Mohegan Fire Department firefighters. Santa will hand out candy canes, and spread some good old holiday cheer.

Menorah Lighting and Ceremony in Yorktown
When/Where: Sunday, Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jack DeVito Gazebo on Veterans Road in Yorktown

Run-N-Gun Shootout
When/Where: Saturday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. at 3500 Buckhorn St, Shrub Oak.
Why Go: The 6 vs. 6 flag football tournament is featuring 8 local teams playing for the Run-N-Gun Championship. Many players are members of the Yorktown Flag Football League. The event features football, concessions, prizes, a visit from Santa, and guests from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America and the Hope For The Warriors, an organization established to support post 9/11 service members.
Somers Menorah Lighting
When/Where: Saturday, Dec. 8 at 335 Route 202, Somers

Jefferson Valley Mall Kidgits Holiday Breakfast Party
When/Where: Saturday, Dec. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Jefferson Valley Mall.
Why Go: There will be free goodies, activities, giveaways and coupons. It will be held in the upper level of the mall by Guest Services. Tickets are required and they are on sale at Guest Services at the mall.
Teen Center First Fridays Cafe Open Mic
When/Where: Friday, Dec. 7 6:30 p.m. at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center nutrition room
Why Go: Local teens will perform great acoustic music, covers and originals. The Yorktown Teen Center is located in the Yorktown Community & Cultural Center at 1974 Commerce Street, Yorktown Heights.
Holiday Bake Sale - Yorktown Presbyterian Preschool
When/Where: Sunday, Dec. 9 at 8:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown, 2880 Crompond Rd.
Why Go: There will be cookies, cakes, pies, brownies, tea loaves and much more. The baked goods are the perfect holiday gifts for teachers, co-workers, neighbors and everyone else on your list. Most items can be frozen for future gift giving. All proceeds go to funding children's programs at Yorktown Presbyterian Preschool.
Chanukah Wonderland
When/Where: Sunday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Yorktown Community Nursery School

Hanukkah Happening & Helping
Where/When: Rosenthal Jewish Community Center of Northern Westchester on Sunday, Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why go: Kids ages 18 months through 10 years and their families can enjoy eight activities in celebration of the eight nights of Hanukkah. At 11 a.m., Jammin' to Calypso Conroy will perform Hanukkah tunes. There will also be a family Chanukiah lighting, gift factory and mitzvah projects to check out. Make your own delicious dreidels and purchase a falafel lunch before taking part in the Judah Maccabee Relay Races. Bring an unwrapped toy or donation to UJA-Federation of NY's Hurricane Relief Fund.
