Sinkhole Develops In Yorktown Park Closing The Facility
Woodlands Legacy Park will likely be closed until spring, as town officials figure out what caused it.

YORKTOWN, NY — Woodlands Legacy Fields Park has been closed — likely until spring — because a sinkhole has developed on the town property.
In a Facebook post, town officials said the park was closed for safety reasons, and Yorktown Police Department, Mohegan volunteer Fire Association and the Yorktown Highway Department are at the scene.
Residents are being urged to avoid the area, the town said.

Authorities were alerted to the sinkhole on Saturday, CBS News reported.

The hole is about 10 feet wide and 30 feet deep, and a 42-inch gas pipe is in it.
A 6-foot fence was built around the sinkhole, News 12 said.
The gas pipe was installed in 2014 by the pipeline and energy company Enbridge.
