Somers High School Volunteers to Make Second Sandy Relief Trip

Volunteers from Somers High School, including students and staff, will make a second relief trip to Far Rockaway on Saturday, Dec. 1. to help Hurricane Sandy victims.

Earlier this month  spent a day in Belle Harbor, a neighborhood in the Rockaways that was severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy. After conducting a drive for only three days, volunteers filled two large school buses with donations and spent the day passing out water, food, and supplies to needy families and emergency workers.

The second trip will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1 when a students and staff will travel to Far Rockaway this time to help victims of Hurricane Sandy. They will work directly with children who attend a daycare that has been displaced as a result of the storm and will serve hot food to residents in the area, at the First Church of God.

The group of students and staff will meet at Somers High School on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. to load donated supplies and food from local businesses. For more information, contact Mark Bayer, Principal at MBayer@somersschools.org.
