Yorktown Police Lieutenant Dies After Sudden Illness

Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi is survived by a wife and two children.

YORKTOWN, NY — A member of the Yorktown Police Department died suddenly Monday.

The department announced on its Facebook page that Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi died around 8 p.m. after a sudden illness.

He took ill 48 hours prior to dying, Chief Robert Noble said.

Sgroi is survived by a wife and two children.

“We love them very much,” Noble said. “They are OUR family.”

He said Sgroi was an outstanding police officer and an "even better man."

Noble thanks the Yorktown community in advance for patience, understanding and support in the days that follow.

“While our hearts are heavy,” he said, “we will continue to do our work in the most professional manner.

“It is what Lieutenant Sgroi would have expected,” Noble said.

Viewing and funeral arrangements will be shared when the department receives them.
