485,000 Hyundai And Kia Models Recalled Due To Fire Risk

NORTH CAROLINA — Almost half a million Kia and Hyundai models have been recalled due to a dangerous fire risk, according to the manufacturers. The manufactures are going as far as advising people who own the affected models to park outside.

The vehicles can catch fire even if the engines are off, according to ABC News.

The problem stems from an issue with the antilock brake control module causing an electrical short.

So far, there have been 11 fires reported in the United States attributed to the issue.

Recalled vehicles are the following, according to the Associated Press:

• Kia Sportage SUVs from 2014 through 2016
• The 2016 through 2018 K900 sedan.
• 2016 through 2018 Santa Fe SUVs
• 2017 and 2018 Santa Fe Sports
• 2019 Santa Fe XL and 2014
• 2015 Tucson SUVs

If you have not been notified that your vehicle is affected, call your local dealership to check. Dealers will replace a part and check the entire vehicle if it is affected.
