Here are the top three stories in Charlotte today:
- Some Charlotte travelers have had their Amtrak trains canceled. Amtrak has canceled all long-distance routes in preparation for a labor dispute between unions and the county's freight railroads. North Carolina's Carolinian and Piedmont trains are still running, however. Amtrack warns that those trains might be affected eventually. (Charlotte Observer)
- Local elementary school students painted curbs at Charlotte Motor Speedway to prepare for the Bank of America Roval 400. Over 30 students painted the curbs referred to as "turtles." The winning student's turtle will be announced during the STEAM Expo on Oct. 7. The event is scheduled for Oct. 9. (WCBD News 2)
- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has arrested Michael Cornwell, Jr. for the murder of a popular DJ. James Freiberg was struck by a stray bullet on Mar. 5 at Horizons at Steele Creek Apartments. Cornwell has been charged with murder in the first degree. (WBTV)
