Tourism leaders say the city’s growing food scene, national recognition, and visitor spending in places like SouthPark and Concord Mills are boosting the local economy and supporting thousands of hospitality jobs.

Groups provide CPR education to older adults (thecharlotteweekly.com) — Charlotte seniors at Anita Stroud Senior Apartments recently received hands-only CPR and AED training through a partnership between the American Heart Association, DreamKey Partners, and MEDIC. The effort aims to build a “Nation of Lifesavers” by empowering residents and staff to respond confidently to cardiac emergencies and expanding AED access at multiple DreamKey properties in the community.
   

4. UNC Charlotte Employee Fired for DEI Comments Files Federal Suit (qcnerve.com) — A former UNC Charlotte staff member has filed a federal lawsuit claiming she was wrongfully fired after being recorded making comments about diversity, equity, and inclusion. The suit alleges discrimination and First Amendment violations by the university and two administrators, raising questions about how Charlotte’s largest public campus handles politically charged speech by employees.
   

5. Man accused of killing another man in south Charlotte, police say (wbtv.com) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a 41-year-old man in connection with a November shooting that left a 39-year-old man dead in south Charlotte. Officers found the victim with a fatal gunshot wound on Wallingford Street, and the suspect was later arrested in Tarboro and brought back to Mecklenburg County to face murder and firearm charges.
