Charlotte Area City Buses Get Plexiglass Between Seats
Charlotte Area Transit System is installing plexiglass seat barriers on all local fixed-route buses and paratransit vehicles.
CHARLOTTE, NC — In an effort to offer added protection amid the ongoing pandemic, Charlotte Area Transit System is installing plexiglass seat barriers on all local fixed-route buses and paratransit vehicles, the city of Charlotte announced Wednesday.
The move comes in addition to the bus service's request that passengers wear cloth face coverings.
City officials said work is complete on 83 paratransit vehicles and will be finished on 166 local fixed-route buses by the end of the month.

"We proactively implemented stringent cleaning protocols, modified transit schedules, installed social distancing signage, removed seats on buses and capped passenger loads," CATS CEO John Lewis said in a statement. "Today, we're taking the next step by installing plexiglass seat barriers on all fixed-route buses and paratransit vehicles."
