Charlotte Firetruck Caught In Morning Shooting, One Injured

CHARLOTTE, NC — A shooting in west Charlotte Monday morning left a person with non-life-threatening injuries and bullet holes in two vehicles and a firetruck, police said.

The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Clanton Road near the intersection with Barringer Drive, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

"When they arrived, officers located a Charlotte Fire Department (CFD) firetruck and a Jeep Cherokee which had been struck by gunfire," the police report said. "An occupant of the Jeep was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. No one else was injured as a result of this incident."

During the investigation, detectives learned that a third occupied vehicle was struck by gunfire. No one in that vehicle was injured, police said.

CMPD deployed a canine unit, an aviation unit and officers from the Real Time Crime Center assisted, however no suspect has been located, police said.

"Detectives do not believe this case is an act of random violence; however, detectives do not believe the CFD firetruck was the intended target," CMPD said.
