CHARLOTTE, NC — Less than one day after asking for the community's help in locating suspects involved in the shooting of three juveniles including a 7-year-old girl, Charlotte police arrested three men they said are connected to the crime.

The juveniles were shot in two separate, but related incidents, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said. Tuesday afternoon, two teenage boys were targeted in a drive-by shooting in a northwest Charlotte street. Hours later and about a mile away, a 7-year-old girl was struck by stray gunfire, caught in the crossfire of a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

By Wednesday evening, police said the investigation led to the arrests of three suspects they say are connected to the apartment complex parking lot shooting that left the little girl with serious injuries.

"Officers located Shipp inside a residence near the 4000 block of Hovis Road where he was arrested without further incident," CMPD said. Shipp was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police also identified Alvin Steele, 20, as a suspect, CMPD said. Officers located Steele and arrested him following a traffic stop. Following an interview with investigators, Steel was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

"Steele's charges are directly associated with the shooting of the juvenile victim in this incident," CMPD said.

The third suspect — identified as Jarvis Short Jr., 28, was in the vehicle with Steele during the traffic stop. He was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

CMPD said the investigation into the case remained active and ongoing, and said anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
