🌱 Charlotte Woman Bitten By Snake + Free Meals, Exercise For Seniors

Here are the top three stories in Charlotte today:

  1. A Charlotte woman was bitten by a venomous snake on Thursday night while taking out the trash. The woman is reportedly suffering from minor swelling in her foot and is expected to be fine after her encounter with the 22-inch copperhead. The copperhead is the most common venomous snake in North Carolina, accounting for over 90 percent of snake bites statewide. (Fox 46 Charlotte)
  2. Older adults in eastern Mecklenburg County will soon have a new place to enjoy free, healthy meals and activities. On May 10, Mecklenburg County's Senior Citizens Nutrition Program will host an information and registration session at its new congregate meal site at Albemarle Road Recreation Center in Charlotte. The site will officially open a week later on May 17, at which time it will begin offering free meals, activities, and exercise to county adults aged 60 and older. (Mecklenburg County)
  3. The Humane Society of Charlotte will celebrate its grand opening at its new facility on May 19. Days before the ribbon-cutting event, the shelter will be hosting the Pet Palooza Fundraising Walk and Community Festival at 11:00 a.m. on May 14.
