CMS Bus Driver Recruitment Event Offers Drivers $17.75 An Hour
Pay for bus drivers has climbed after workers demanded better wages.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Pay for school bus drivers in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System has climbed again, this time to $17.75 after a vote last month.
As recently as June, pay was $15.75 an hour. There is a nationwide school bus driver shortage and CMS is hiring new drivers in an event on Thursday.
The event will be held at Northpointe Bus Lot, 4400 Northpointe Industrial Blvd. from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

CMS has one of the top ten largest transportation departments in the state, boasting more than 1,400 employees.
To become a school bus driver at CMS, this is what you must have:

Qualifications:
- Must be able to pass the NC school bus driver written and road test
- Must have a valid drivers license for at least six (6) months
- Minimum of 6 months professional work experience
- Must be 18 years of age
- Good driving record
- Good work references
- Have dependable transportation to and from work
- Ability and willingness to work with students and adults
- Professional and positive work attitude
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job
The DMV requires all bus driver applicants to obtain a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) before scheduling behind the wheel training.
