As the weather warms up, many people in the Queen City have begun their spring cleaning.

However, there are several common mistakes that many homeowners make or just simply aren’t aware of as they dust, scrub, wax, and try to welcome the sunshine and fresh air with a clean house.

“I think sometimes homeowners develop cleaning habits that quite frankly might be doing more harm than good,” insists David Houck, the owner of Home Clean Heroes in South Charlotte.

Houck shared a few common errors that folks make when cleaning.

  • Not having a plan for cleaning. For example, it’s not best practice to dust from low to high because it only dirties up your already dusted areas! Dust from high to low so that dirt and dust can be easily vacuumed up.
  • Speaking of, CLEAN YOUR FLOORS LAST! I see many folks cleaning their floors first. That just allows for the dirt and grime to fall all over your newly sanitized floors as you continue cleaning.
  • Failing to change out cleaning rags often. To avoid room contamination, swap out cleaning rags regularly and ALWAYS change out the rags you use for the bathroom.
  • Not allowing disinfectant spray to stay on surfaces long enough. Read the product label for the manufacturer’s recommended time to allow disinfecting.
  • Disregarding wearing proper personal protection equipment (PPE). Always make sure you are protecting yourself from potentially harmful chemicals and possible mold and bacteria.

Practicing healthy cleaning methods and staying safe from germs have become paramount over the last few years. Remember to have a plan when you do your cleaning, and if you find you need a little more help, Home Clean Heroes is proud to service the greater Charlotte area. They have a system and plan for each home and are happy to solve your cleaning problems.
