COVID-19 Found In Wastewater Of UNCC Dorm, Residents To Be Tested
All residents of a UNCC dorm will be tested for COVID-19 after the virus was detected in the residence hall's wastewater.
CHARLOTTE, NC —Residents of a University of North Carolina at Charlotte dorm were ordered by school officials to remain in the building until they could get tested for COVID-19 Friday after a sampling of the wastewater at the building detected presence of SARs-CoV-2 virus.
The university has initiated wastewater testing in an effort to detect the presence of the virus before symptoms appear.
UNCC did not identify the name of the dorm in its announcement, citing resident privacy, but said none of the residents had reported symptoms. Testing was set to take place Friday afternoon, it said.

"During this time, all residents of the building are required to remain in place except to pick up to-go meals, accept meal delivery and attend medical appointments," UNCC said in a notice to the school community.
"Residents will remain under this directive until their test results are returned approximately 24 hours after specimen collection," UNCC said. "Those testing positive or identified as a close contact of anyone who tests positive will be placed in quarantine/isolation in accordance with the University’s on-campus quarantine/isolation protocols."
