CHARLOTTE, NC — A drive-through, free coronavirus vaccination event is scheduled Thursday, March 18 at Second Calvary Baptist Church, Atrium Health said.

"Wait times might be long," Atrium Health said. "On-site staff will let cars know when all vaccines have been given out. This might be before the 2:30 p.m. closing time if there are a large number of people already in line."

Second doses of vaccine will be administered at the church location on Thursday, April 15, from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Last week, Gov. Roy Cooper announced that the state was expediting vaccination eligibility for medically vulnerable residents, who will now become eligible under state public health guidelines Wednesday, March 17.

Those eligible under the expedited timeline include those with medical conditions that put them at higher-risk with COVID-19, as well as those living in congregate living facilities at increased risk of exposure.

There is no requirement of proof of the medical condition, Cooper said. "We're going to rely on people's good judgement and their knowledge of their own medical condition," he said.

Additional members of Group 4 will be added April 7, Cooper said.
