Fallen CMPD Officer Mia Goodwin Leaves Behind 3 Children
Mia Goodwin was a mother, a wife and a third shift police officer.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Chief Johnny Jennings said Officer Mia Goodwin was a mother of three children, including a 3-year-old, one-year-old and a four-month-old. Goodwin had just returned to work after maternity leave for her most recent birth.
"The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is hurting," he said. "The profession hurts, our city hurts."
He added that Goodwin's husband is a firefighter.

Goodwin was struck and killed after a crash on I-85 police had responded to in the early morning hours. As a third shift officer, she was on the scene at 3:45 a.m. when two 18-wheelers collided and struck four police cruisers. She was pronounced dead on scene.
"She wanted to do more," said Jennings. "She wanted to do more in her career," said Jennings. Goodwin had been with the department since October of 2015.

Jennings also advised people to be careful at crash scenes. "Slow down, and take extra precaution," he said. "When you don't do that, you put people's lives in danger."
Two other officers were taken to the hospital and released.
CMPD is working on a collective plan to assist Goodwin's family and will release details soon.
