Found Remains Are Missing 78-Year-Old Charlotte Man: CMPD

Eleven months after 78-year-old David Crawford was reported missing, his remains were located near his home on Lasalle Street, CMPD said.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Skeletal remains discovered in a west Charlotte neighborhood Wednesday were identified as belonging to a 78-year-old man who was reported missing from his nearby home nearly 11 months ago, Charlotte police said.

The remains were found in the 1500 block of LaSalle Street in Lincoln Heights shortly after 1 p.m. July 28.

"After review by the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner's Office, the victim has been identified as David Crawford," 78, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a statement. "Homicide Unit & Missing Persons Unit detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this case, but do not believe foul play is involved."

In early September, police asked for the community's help locating Crawford, who was last seen in his home in the 1600 block of LaSalle Street on Aug. 31 around 6:30 p.m.

"He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a blue long sleeve, button-up shirt, and white sneakers," CMPD said. He is described as 5-foot, 5-inches tall, about 130 pounds, and has gray hair. He also walks hunched over, police said.

At the time of his disappearance, police said Crawford was thought to be suffering cognitive impairment or dementia, WBTV reported.

CMPD said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and asked that anyone with information call 9-1-1, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
