Here Are The 14 North Carolinians Charged In The Jan 6 US Capitol Insurrection
14 people from NC face charges for their role in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

CHARLOTTE, NC — 14 North Carolina residents have been charged in connection to the January 6, 2021 insurrection in Washington D.C. at the U.S. Capitol building one year ago. Many of those arrested will face additional court proceedings this year, and as a reminder, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. The following are listed in alphabetical order and their records come from the FBI.
- Stephen Baker, Garner, N.C. – Charged with unlawful entry in a restricted building or grounds; violent entry and disorderly conduct in a capitol building; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building. Baker was arrested in February 2021.
- Bradley Bennett, Charlotte, N.C. – Charged with obstruction of an official proceeding; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; entering and remaining in the gallery of congress; disorderly conduct in a capitol building; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building; obstruction of justice/official proceeding. Bennett was arrested in April 2021.
- Lewis Cantwell, Asheville, N.C. – Charged with civil disorder; obstruction of an official proceeding; entering and remaining in a restricted building and grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building and grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building and grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a capitol building and grounds; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building. Cantwell was arrested in February 2021.
- Charles Donohue, Kernersville, N.C. – Charged with conspiracy; obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting; destruction of government property and aiding and abetting; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a restricted building or grounds. Donohue is a member of the Proud Boys, according to the FBI, acting as one of their leaders. He was arrested in March 2021.
- Edward George, Fayetteville, N.C. – Charged with obstruction of an official proceeding, aiding and abetting; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; entering and remaining in the gallery of congress; disorderly conduct in a capitol building; parading, demonstrating or picketing in a capitol building; civil disorder; assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers; theft of government property, aiding and abetting. George was arrested July 2021.
- Johnny Harris, Shelby, N.C. – Charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; knowingly, with intent to impede government business or official functions, engaging in disorderly conduct on capitol grounds; engaging in disorderly or disruptive conduct on the capitol buildings or grounds; parading, demonstrating or picketing in the capitol buildings. He was arrested in March 2021.
- Stephen Horn, Raleigh, N.C. – Charged with entering and remaining in a restricted building; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building; violent entry and disorderly conduct in a capitol building; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building. He was arrested in April 2021.
- James Little, Claremont, N.C. – Charged with obstruction of an official proceeding; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a capitol building; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building. He was arrested in March 2021.
- Anthony Scirica, Winston-Salem, N.C. – Charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; violent entry and disorderly conduct on capitol grounds. He was arrested in June 2021.
- Grayson Sherill, Cherryville, N.C. – Charged with entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a capitol building; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building. He was arrested in March 2021.
- Christopher Spencer, Winston-Salem, N.C. – Charged with obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a capitol building; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building. He was arrested in January 2021.
- Virginia Spencer, Pilot Mountain, N.C. – Charged with obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a capitol building; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building. She was arrested in February 2021.
- Laura Steele, Kernersville, N.C. – Charged with conspiracy; obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting; destruction of government property and aiding and abetting; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; tampering with documents or proceedings. She was arrested in February 2021.
- Matthew Wood, Winston-Salem, N.C. – Charged with obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting; entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; entering and remaining in certain rooms in the capitol building; disorderly conduct in a capitol building; parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building. He was arrested in March 2021.
