Homicide Probe Underway Following Beatties Ford Road Shooting

A man was shot and killed overnight in a north Charlotte shooting, police said.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have launched a homicide investigation following a deadly shooting on Beatties Ford Road Wednesday evening.

The shooting was reported shortly before 10:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of Beatties Ford Road, according to a report by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

When responding officers arrived, they found an adult male with a gunshot wound. The victim, who was not immediately identified by authorities, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death marks the 19th homicide in Charlotte in 2021, according to WBTV.

CMPD said the investigation is active and ongoing, and that anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Charlotte police said Wednesday that violent crimes involving firearms have surged more than 30 percent in the metro area, prompting CMPD to form a new Crime Gun Suppression Team unit.

"This year, we've had over 400 assault with a deadly weapon cases involving a firearm, about a 31 percent increase over last year," CMPD Maj. Ryan Butler said Wednesday.
More than 650 people victimized by shootings into occupied property or dwellings, such as a home or vehicle, he said.
