Juvenile Charged With Attempted Murder After Mall Shooting
Northlake Mall was locked down and evacuated Saturday after a shot was fired near Belk, according to a report.
CHARLOTTE, NC — A juvenile was arrested and charged with the attempted murder of another juvenile following a shooting at Northlake Mall Saturday, which prompted a widespread lockdown and evacuation.
The juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Sunday.
The March 20 shooting occurred inside the mall around 4 p.m. near Entry 4. Uniformed off-duty CMPD officers, who were working at the mall, responded, according to a police account

“We heard the shot and then we saw all the people run towards us from the Apple Store, so we all were running in different directions,” Raykeyla Sanders, who was shopping at the mall during the incident, told WSOC. Officers told the station that the shooting occurred near Belk.
"The off-duty officers immediately called for back-up over the police radio and responded to the area of Entry 4, where they located physical evidence of a shot being fired," CMPD said in a statement. "No one was located who had been shot."

CMPD officers, along with members of Charlotte Fire Department, then conducted a search of the facility for victims and suspects. While no victims were located, three bystanders suffered medical conditions unrelated to the incident, and they were treated by Medic, CMPD said.
CMPD said the investigation into the shooting remained ongoing and said anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
