This is the second time Cawthorn has been cited for driving with a revoked license. Before he was elected to Congress, he was charged with driving while revoked in 2017, but the charge was dismissed, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Cawthorn also is facing two pending citations for speeding: 89 mph in a 65-mph zone in Buncombe County on Oct. 18 and 87 mph in a 70-mph zone in Polk County on Jan. 8, according to the Citizen Times.

Cawthorn, an outspoken member of Congress, has found himself embroiled in numerous controversies.

Last February, airport security stopped Cawthorn in Asheville for attempting to board a plane with a Glock 9mm handgun, The News & Observer reported. He was eventually allowed to board the plane and pick it up at security when he returned.

In September, Cawthorn also escaped charges after he took a knife to a school board meeting, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.

Cawthorn also is known to be closely aligned with former President Trump. Cawthorn has described Trump as being "like a father" to him and that he frequently comes to the former president for advice on foreign policy.
