Man Charged With Voluntary Manslaughter In North Charlotte Homicide

Police responded to a call Saturday night and discovered a man with a gunshot wound who later died. They have charged a man with his death.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a homicide at the 3700 block of North Tryon Street.

Police responded to a call Saturday night shortly before midnight for an assault with a deadly weapon and when officers arrived, they found Malik Fidel Whitney, 50, with a gunshot wound.

Whitney was pronounced dead after he was taken to the hospital.

Officers were able to detain the person suspected of shooting Whitney and then interviewed him.

Darrell McKinley, 53, was placed under arrest and charged with voluntary manslaughter.
