MCPH Solicits Groups To Co-Host COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

County health officials want to increase COVID-19 vaccine equity, and are now accepting applications for vaccination events.

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, NC — In a bid to increase access to marginalized groups, Mecklenburg County health officials are now accepting applications from community groups to co-host COVID-19 vaccination events, Mecklenburg County Public Health announced.

"These community-based clinics are part of a broader effort by MCPH and local vaccine providers to ensure an equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines specifically among low-income, racial-ethnic minority, immigrant, refugee, homeless and other vulnerable populations in Mecklenburg County," MCPH said in a statement. "Community-based clinics provide low-barrier vaccine opportunities for those who might be limited by transportation, access to the internet or may only be willing to come if invited by their community leader, faith leader, or another person they trust."

County health officials said applications for the vaccination events will be accepted on a rolling bases, and that submissions from organizations representing higher at-risk or underrepresented groups would be prioritized.

Organizations interested in applying will need access to a facility that could accommodate a vaccination clinic, which includes space for the preparation and administering of vaccines, as well as allow for social distancing, MCPH said.
