Mecklenburg County Opens Application Process To Replace Ella Scarborough
Ella Scarborough is Commissioner-At-Large but has taken a leave of medical absence, allowing the board to replace her temporarily.
MEKLENBURG COUNTY, NC — The Mecklenburg Board Of County Commissioners has decided to appoint someone new to replace Commissioner Ella Scarborough while she battles a medical illness. The move will be temporary while she's on leave, but a process is underway to select someone to represent her constituents in her absence.
North Carolina General Statutes (NCGS) § 128-40 is the statue that allows them to appoint a temporary replacement, which starts with an application period beginning Thursday.
The application period opened at 9 a.m. Thursday and the deadline is Friday, Feb. 25, 2022 at 5 p.m.

To qualify for consideration, applicants are required to:
· Be a registered Democrat
· Be a registered voter
· Be 21 years of age or older
· Be a resident and qualified to vote in Mecklenburg County
