NORTH CAROLINA — North Carolina administered an average of about 67,100 vaccinations a day last week, as nearly one out of every three adults in the state have received at least one dose, state public health officials said Monday.

Prior to the holiday week of March 29, North Carolina reported two weeks of steady increases of vaccinations in the state. During the week of March 22, more than 580,000 doses of vaccine were administered, up from the nearly 505,000 doses were administered during the week of March 15, according to North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services data.

On Monday, DHHS reported that 1.9 million North Carolinians, or about 20 percent of the state's adult population, were fully vaccinated. According to DHHS data, more than 3.1 million, or 30 percent of the state's population, has received at least their first dose.

This week, anyone 16 and older in North Carolina will be eligible to receive the vaccine beginning Wednesday, April 7, which is ahead of the May 1 goal President Joe Biden set for the country.

North Carolina reported a 6-percent coronavirus positivity rate Monday, an increase from the 2021 low of 3.5 percent positivity reported on March 9.

There were 1,054 new COVID-19 cases reported in the last day North Carolina, while 907 were hospitalized for coronavirus-related illness, DHHS said Monday.

As of April 5, at least 12,173 North Carolina residents had died from COVID-19, DHHS said.
