On Election Day, transit services throughout the Charlotte metro are offering voters free rides to the polls.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Voters in need of a ride to the polls on Election Day have options for free and discounted rides throughout the Charlotte metro region.

The Charlotte Area Transit System will provide free fares all day on Nov. 3, and reminded voters to "Get out and vote — don't forget that face mask."

The transit system reminded voters to follow all social distancing protocols and only sit in unmarked seats. Buses will also be capped at 20 passengers.

Ride-sharing services, Uber and Lyft are providing discounted rides to the polls.

"We know that in 2016, 14% of eligible voters noted transportation as a barrier to voting," Uber said. "That’s why we’re helping people find their polling locations with an in-app poll-finding feature and 50% off round trip rides to and from the polls (up to $7 each trip), or up to $14 for the two trips. It also applies on bikes and scooters." For full details about this option, visit Uber.

Lyft will offer 50 percent off one ride to any voting precinct up to $10. The company is also partnering with nonprofit organizations to distribute free and discounted rides in communities with limited reliable and affordable transportation.

“By providing access to free and discounted rides to arena voting sites in Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, Houston, Milwaukee, Orlando, and Philadelphia, Lyft is making it easier for voters in key population centers to exercise their right to vote this fall," Michael Tyler, EVP of Public Affairs for More Than A Vote said.

Lyft's promo code for the discount is "2020VOTE." For more information visit, Lyft.
