Northlake Mall To Require Adults Accompany Shoppers Under 17

The north Charlotte mall's new youth supervision policy will be in effect on Friday and Saturday evenings, it said.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Shoppers under 17 will soon need an adult chaperone at Northlake Mall. The north Charlotte mall said beginning Aug. 13, shoppers under 17 will need to be accompanied by a parent or adult 21 years old or older, at all times after 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings.

"Our Youth Supervision Policy is established so all guests can enjoy a safe, pleasant and family friendly shopping environment," the mall said.

Says Northlake Mall:
"Guests age 17 and under are required to be accompanied by and remain with a parent or legal guardian at all times after 5.00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays (unless coming from or going to employment at the Mall) Proof of age will be required for the youth and supervising adult. Those who fail to produce proper identification will be asked to leave the property. Identification must include a photograph, date of birth and be tamper proof. Supervising adult may accompany up to 3 youths. Supervising adult must remain with the youth at all times, and is responsible for the actions of the youth they accompany."

Last week, Concord Mills Mall in Concord, NC announced a similar policy following several violent incidents. That policy, which went into effect July 30, requires shoppers under 18 be accompanied by someone 21 years old or older after 3 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
