Police Identify Homicide Victim Fatally Shot Near Uptown

Charlotte police have released the identity of the homicide victim and say the investigation into the case remains ongoing.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Three days after arresting and charging a suspect for fatally shooting a man in uptown, Charlotte police have released the identity of the homicide victim and say the investigation into the case remains ongoing.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded to North College Street and East 12th Street around 4 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 after receiving an emergency call reporting a shooting in the area.

When they arrived, they found Stephen Robinson, 37, with a gunshot wound. Robinson was pronounced dead on the scene by medic.

By Friday evening, police reported an arrest in the shooting.

Following an investigation at the scene, investigators identified Xavier Hough, 19, as a suspect and said they charged him "for his involvement" in the homicide. "Following an interview, Hough was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Murder," CMPD said.

Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and said that anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
