Police Identify Victims In Separate Weekend Shootings

Police have identified two homicide victims killed in separate weekend shootings in Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police have identified two homicide victims killed in separate weekend shootings.

Saturday night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were summoned to the 8000 block of Andover Creek Drive around 7:20 p.m. after receiving a call reporting a discharging firearm. When officers arrived, they found a male victim with a gunshot wound and lying in an apartment complex parking lot.

The victim, who was later identified as Derreck Tyrell McDonald, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene, CMPD said.

Hours later, CMPD responded to another shooing in north Charlotte.

Early Sunday morning, around 12 a.m., officers at the intersection of Pavilion Boulevard and University City Boulevard heard several gun shots. During their investigation, they located a male gunshot victim in the 1700 block of Caroway Street.

"Officers immediately requested for Medic to respond and began administering life-saving efforts to the victim," CMPD said.

The victim, who was later identified as Jontavius Demond Hall, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

CMPD said investigations into both cases remain active and ongoing, and said that anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
