Police Make Arrest Following East Charlotte Stabbing Death

Michael Bruce Oliver, 41, was arrested and charged with the Friday night stabbing death of Kwame Anwar Pugh, CMPD said.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have arrested and charged a 41-year-old Charlotte man in connection to a fatal stabbing in east Charlotte Friday night.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, an emergency call was received reporting an assault with a deadly weapon shortly before 9 p.m. Oct. 9 in the 5000 block of Cheval Place, a residential neighborhood near the intersection of Central Avenue and North Sharon Amity Road.

Responding officers found a man with "an apparent stab wound" in the home, according to the police statement. The victim, who was identified as Kwame Anwar Pugh, 25, was pronounced dead by medic, CMPD said.

Police said the stabbing occurred during a gathering at a home on Cheval Place and that the victim knew the assailant, WSOC reported.

By Saturday, the suspect, who was identified as Michael Bruce Oliver, 41, was arrested and charged in the homicide, CMPD said.

CMPD said an investigation remains ongoing and that anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
