Police Search For Damaged Dodge Charger In Fatal Hit, Run Case

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver behind a fatal hit-and-run, CMPD said.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police asked for the community's help Wednesday as investigators continue the search for the driver responsible for a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a 35-year-old Charlotte man late last month.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers responded to the crash site in the 4000 block of Brookshire Boulevard around 3 a.m. Saturday, July 31, where they found a pedestrian in the roadway. First responders attempted to render aid, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The victim was identified as Barry Cunningham, CMPD said.

"The initial investigation indicates a 2015-2021 Dodge Charger was traveling northwest on Brookshire Boulevard at a high rate of speed in the right lane when it struck the pedestrian who was crossing the road," CMPD said. "The pedestrian was struck and flown across three travel lanes when he came to rest next to the median. The driver of the Dodge Charger failed to stop at the scene or notify emergency services."

CMPD investigators believe the vehicle was either red, silver or gray in color, and has a damaged left side headlamp and windshield.
