Reckless Driving, Speeding Result In Deadly Crash, Police Say

Police say a driver passing another car on the right was speeding, then crossed the median and hit someone head on, killing them.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Sunday morning at about 10:30, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers responded to a serious car crash on Sharon Amity Road where one person died.

Police say speeding and reckless driving played a role in the fatal crash.

A 2009 Infiniti G37 and a 2007 Honda Odyssey were involved and both had severe damage. The driver of the Odyssey, Ashely Marie Adkins, 35, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead following the crash. The driver of the Infiniti, Darryl Davon Wamack Jr,. 24, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police investigated the crash and determined Wamack was driving the Infiniti in a "careless and reckless manner" driving northeast on Sharon Amity Road. Police say he passed a vehicle on the right while speeding and then tried to get back into the left lane. He lost control, crossed the median and then struck the Odyssey head on.

Arrest warrants have been obtained for involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, and speeding and will be served to Wamack upon his release from the hospital.
