'Shelter In Place' Warning Issued For CPCC Wednesday Afternoon

Police were tracking a suspect Wednesday afternoon and asked the campus to shelter in place.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Central Piedmont Community College Central Campus went into a "shelter in place" order Wednesday afternoon, according to the college.

"Please shelter in place until further notice. Please close and lock all doors as CMPD is pursuing a suspect on Central Campus. At this time we do not know if suspect is armed. College Security is monitoring the situation with CMPD. More info to follow," the campus tweeted.

The order was lifted at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

"ALERT The shelter in place order on Central Campus is lifted. CMPD advised Central Piedmont to end the shelter in place. CMPD continues to look for the suspect off campus.

You may resume normal activities and classes. Thank you for your cooperation during this event," the campus tweeted.
