Single-Car Accident Kills Driver, Leaves Child Seriously Injured
CMPD said impairment is suspected to be a factor in a single-vehicle accident that killed one and left a child with serious injuries.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte police are investigating a single-vehicle accident in southwest Charlotte over the weekend that killed one and left a child with serious injuries.
The July 17 accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Shopton Road West and Eagle Oak Drive.
According to a police report, officers responded to the scene and found a 2016 Dodge van with heavy front-end damage. Inside the vehicle were two occupants: the driver, who was identified as Eddie Guadalupe Jr., 33, and an unidentified juvenile in the front seat.

Guadalupe was pronounced dead at the scene. The child, who was not restrained in a booster seat, was transported to Atrium Health Main hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.
An initial investigation found that the 2016 Dodge van drove off the roadway to the left, and struck a neighborhood entrance stone pillar, according to a police account.

"Impairment is suspected to be a contributing factor for this crash," CMPD said.
CMPD said the investigation into the crash remains open and said that anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
