Standoff With Armed Suspect Ends, 1 In Custody: CMPD

The armed standoff was de-escalated "peacefully," Charlotte police said Friday afternoon.

CHARLOTTE, NC — One person was taken into custody Friday following an armed standoff with police that prompted road closures along Providence Road, leading to traffic backups in south Charlotte.

"[Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's] SWAT Team is near the 5100 block of McKee Road in reference to an armed subject call for service," CMPD said midday. "The area is contained and there is no immediate threat. Please avoid the area while they work to de-escalate the situation."

Traffic delays from the standoff were seen on Interstate 485, according to WJZY.

Friday afternoon, the incident was "peacefully de-escalated," CMPD said.

"Detectives are actively investigating to determine what charges may be appropriate," CMPD said.
