Truck Driver Charged After Officer Killed In I-85 Crash
Officer Mia Goodwin was killed after 18-wheelers collided and slammed into four police cruisers. A trucker has been charged.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have charged Daniel Leon Morgan, 50, for his involvement in the crash that killed Charlotte police officer Mia Goodwin.
Police say it was determined that Morgan was operating a 2020 Volvo VNL and failed to move left to a single open lane of travel on Interstate 85 South.
He was charged with involuntary manslaughter, misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to reduce speed and felony failure to move over for stopped emergency vehicles.

Morgan was screened for impairment and deemed not impaired.
Officer Goodwin was responding to a crash that had taken place in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Dec. 12 when suddenly, two trucks collided, careening into four police cruisers.

Officer Goodwin was pronounced dead on the scene, and two other officers were treated for their injuries at a local hospital.
Goodwin leaves behind three children, and had just returned from maternity leave.
