UNC Charlotte Returns To In-Person Learning Amid COVID Case Boom
The campus shifted to virtual learning for the first two weeks of the semester, but says it is "past" the holiday surge.
CHARLOTTE, NC — UNC-Charlotte returned to in-campus learning Monday after two weeks of virtual schooling due to the surge of the omicron variant of coronavirus, per campus officials.
"Public health experts are predicting omicron infections will peak in North Carolina as early as this week, and our two-week remote start has allowed us to move past the post-holiday surge," officials said in a statement. They did not cite which experts they were referring to.
Last week, North Carolina surpassed 20,000 deaths attributed to COVID-19, and the daily positivity rate statewide exceeded 35 percent.

The campus will keep strict protocols in place as students return to classrooms, including masking and vaccinations.
Masks are required on campus, with KN95 or N95 masks recommended.

They are also strongly recommending vaccinations, or students must submit to a testing procedure. "All students and employees who are eligible for a booster shot must have one to continue being exempt from on-campus testing requirements," the statement read.
Athletic events also require a mask.
