Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

  1. Congressman Tim Ryan visited Marietta on Tuesday to campaign for the Senate seat of retiring U.S. Senator Rob Portman. In his speech, Ryan discussed fighting to raise wages, make health care affordable, invest in education, and rebuild public infrastructure. The primary election to decide the democratic and republican candidates for this seat is on May 3. (WTAP-TV)
  2. The Washington County Primary Election is fast approaching, and local residents who want to vote or run should be aware of some upcoming deadlines. If you wish to get your name on the ballot in May, you must file a petition and pay a filing fee with Washington County by Feb. 2 at 4 p.m., said Mandy Amos, director of the Washington County Board of Election. The deadline for write-in candidates is Feb. 22, and voter registration must be completed by April 4. So far, three Washington County candidates are on the ballot for Judge of Common Pleas, County Commissioner, and County Auditor.(WTAP-TV)
  3. Marietta-based band Oyo will be releasing their debut album on Feb. 8. The six-piece Appalachian roots band formed out of jam sessions in the of JustAJar Design Press in Marietta. Their debut album is self-titled and will feature 12 original songs. (Parkersburg News & Sentinel)
