On 27 Jul 2021 Deputy Stillson began an investigation into a vehicle theft from Janet Gibbs, Starlite Drive, Marietta, OH. This case is closed due to the victim not wishing to pursue charges.

On 27 Jul 2021 Deputy Martin began an investigation on Vickers Road regarding tools and security equipment being stolen. This case remains under investigation.

On 28 Jul 2021 while on patrol on State Route 7, Deputy Painter noticed a truck traveling southbound switching lanes between the travel lane and the passing lane without signaling. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Cody Wise. An odor of raw marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. Wise was asked if there was or had been marijuana in the vehicle, with him stating yes, and there was a gram in the center console. A search revealed a baggie of a green leafy substance (later weighed 5.29 grams). A summons is being requested for Cody D.F. Wise, age 26, 1522 S. 4th Street, Ironton, OH, on a charge of possession of marijuana.
On 28 Jul 2021 Deputy Painter issued a citation for speed to Ashlee N. Proctor, 323 Greenhill Road, Marietta, OH, 75 mph in the posted 60 mph zone.

On 28 Jul 2021 Deputy Painter was dispatched to the area of Cross Street in Belpre to a report of a subject being intoxicated and firing a gun in an unsafe manner. Deputies responded to 503 Cross Street in an attempt to contact the subject. A vehicle in the driveway was running and appeared to have subjects in it. Deputies approached the vehicle and identified the subject on the driver's side as James Andrew White. White exited the vehicle, stating that he was armed. White removed the handgun and placed it in his truck. White was asked in reference to the shooting complaint we had received. White stated he had been shooting at a groundhog. White’s eyes appeared to be glassed over and his speech was slurred. Deputies detected the odor of alcohol on his person. White was asked if he had been drinking and he admitted to having five or six beers. White agreed to a PBT, with the results being .198 BAC. White, age 50, 503 Cross Street, Belpre, OH, was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail charged with having weapons while intoxicated.

On 29 Jul 2021 while on patrol at the 2000 block of State Route 7, Deputy Painter observed a male walking along the road with no lights or reflective clothing. Deputy Painter conducted a welfare check on the subject to assist him if possible. The male, identified as Chad A. Norton, was found to have an active warrant for his arrest for possession of drugs. A search revealed a pipe in Norton’s pocket, which he confirmed was for smoking weed. Norton was asked if there was anything in the two backpacks that he shouldn’t have. Norton advised a grinder with some marijuana in it. Chad Allan Norton, age 37, 13 Westview Circle, Parkersburg, WV, was placed under arrest on the warrant. A summons will be requested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. The loose marijuana was found to weigh 8.79 grams.

On 29 Jul 2021 Sgt. Johnson met with Charles Michel in reference to a 2006 Honda Accord not being returned by an individual that was borrowing it. This case remains under investigation.
On 29 Jul 2021 Deputy Tullius and Sgt. Johnson responded to 109 Chapel Avenue to a 911 call requesting a squad. Destinee Farnsworth stated she and Larry Goodwin were in a verbal argument which escalated. Goodwin pulled Farnsworth’s hair and struck her with a curtain rod. Farnsworth stated that she then bit Goodwin. Destinee Patience Farnsworth, age 25, 109 Chapel Avenue, Marietta, OH, and Larry Thomas Goodwin, age 26, 109 Chapel Avenue, Marietta, OH, will be issued a summons for disorderly conduct by fighting.

On 29 Jul 2021 Deputy Painter issued a citation to Tamera Sue Good, 436 Fifth Street, Marietta, OH, for speed, 74 mph in a 60 mph zone.

On 29 Jul 2021 Deputy Painter issued a citation to Elizabeth A Schmaltz, 5 Roxbury Drive, Athens, OH, 74 mph in a 60 mph zone.

On 29 Jul 2021 Deputy Painter issued a citation to Alyssa Dawn Deter, 175 Watson Lane, Belpre, OH, 84 mph in a 60 mph zone.

On 29 Jul 2021 Deputy Tornes began an investigation into a dog running loose on Front Street, Marietta, OH. This case remains under investigation.

On 29 Jul 2021 deputies responded to Camelot Drive, Belpre, OH, to meet with Randall Barnette to reference a theft. This case remains under investigation.

On 29 Jul 2021 Deputy Aultman began an investigation into a theft from a resident. This case remains under investigation.

On 29 Jul 2021 deputies responded to 567 Coal Run Drive, Waterford, OH, to a report of Jeremy Ludwig being at the residence. Ludwig was found to have an active warrant out of West Virginia. Ludwig was found hiding in the attic of the residence. While searching Ludwig, a small glass container with a white crystalline substance was found in his pocket, which he admitted was methamphetamine. Jeremy Marlen Ludwig, age 26, 567 Coal Run Drive, Unit A, Lowell, OH, was arrested on the warrant and also charged with possession of a controlled substance and being a fugitive from justice.

Billy Ray Gibson, age 40, Walker, WV, driving under suspension 2 counts, and no seatbelt, all misdemeanors.

Stanley Rupert Smith Jr., age 59, Marietta, OH, probation violation, a misdemeanor.

Demarkus Ramar Smith, age 30, Cleveland Heights, OH, driving under suspension (Geauga County).

Dustin Dewain Wade, age 34,Walker, WV, trespass in a habitation, disrupting public service and tampering with drugs, all felonies, possessing criminal tools and criminal damaging, both misdemeanors.

Miranda Jane Long, age 28, Fleming, OH, probation violation, a misdemeanor.

Phillip Joseph Bair, II, age 28, Marietta, OH, probation violation, a misdemeanor.

Travis Eugene Williams, age 25, Reedsville, OH, probation violation, a misdemeanor.

Jason Ray Wriston, age, Lower Salem, OH, driving under suspension, a misdemeanor.

There are currently 23 female inmates and 100 male inmates being housed in the Washington County Jail.
