1 Dead In Pittsurgh-Area Officer-Involved Shooting; 3 Hurt In Police Chase

A lengthy police chase in the Pittsburgh area ended with police fatally shooting someone in a crash that left three others injured.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A person was shot by an office and later died and three others were injured in a crash after a police chase on the Parkway North on Saturday.

The incident resulted in the closure of the parkway between Interstate 79 and the Camp Horne Road interchange at around 9 p.m. The parkway fully reopened early Sunday morning.

Details remained sketchy on Sunday, but WPXI-TV reported police began pursuing a white SUV in Butler County and that multiple departments joined the chase into Allegheny County. The chase continued into Ohio Township, where the SUV suddenly crashed and rolled over several times.

According to WTAE-TV, shots were fired from the SUV. Officers returned fire, which led to the shooting of one of the SUV passengers, who died shortly thereafter at a nearby hospital. The other three occupants of the vehicle were taken to the hospital; there was no immediate word on their conditions.

The officer or officers who fired the fatal shots and the department from which they are from was not immediately released.
