Casey Rips Pittsburgh Elected Officials Over Hamas Attack Statement
U.S. Sen. Bob Casey is at odds with Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato and U.S. Rep. Summer Lee.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey is attempting to ward off Republican David McCormick in the Nov. 5 election, but he has taken time Wednesday to denounce three Pittsburgh elected officials - all fellow Democrats
Casey was sharply critical of a statement issued by Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato and U.S. Rep. on Monday's anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel. The statement, condemned by local Jewish organization and leaders, was pro-Palestinian and did not criticize Hamas' for its role in the attacks that left 1,200 Israelis dead.
"Our hearts ache for the tens of thousands of Palestinians who have been killed; for the Israelis still held hostage; for the millions of displaced Palestinians, Lebanese, and Israelis who have seen their communities destroyed and are suffering today; and for those who have faced hate and violence here at home," the statement said in part.

Casey tweeted on X that he could not disagree more with the trio's statement.
"Hamas is a terrorist organization and its horrific attack which resulted in the murder of 1,200 innocent Israeli civilians must be categorically condemned. Hamas remains a threat to the people of Israel," he stated.

The Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle tweeted the statement on X while noting "the statement fails to mention Hamas and implies the blame lies with Israel. It also fails to mention the explosion of antisemitism."
