PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for the Gab & Eat restaurant on Washington Avenue for numerous health code violations.
An inspection Thursday revealed that various foods - including eggs, diced ham, cooked vegetable, sausage links, ground meat and sliced tomatoes - were being stored at unsafe temperatures.
Clean utensils were found stored on dirty shelving in the dish room. The potato punch was soiled with old food debris and residue.

Prepared foods were found marked with discard dates beyond the maximum seven days permitted.
Employees were seen switching gloves without washing their hands. Customers were seen passing through the food preparation area to use the restrooms, which are in a state of disrepair.

A restaurant with a consumer alert placard is allowed to operate for a temporary period not exceeding 10 days. Another inspection is conducted either prior to the expiration of the temporary period upon request of the eatery owner or on the tenth day.
