Dog's Death Prompts Animal Cruelty Charges Against Pittsburgh Man

PITTSBURGH, PA — A Pittsburgh man faces felony animal cruelty charges after the death of a dog in his care. An arrest warrant has been issued for Gerald Dewayne Walker, 23, of Lincoln-Lemington, Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said Tuesday.

On Nov. 20, police responded to an animal cruelty complaint in the 1600 block of Broadhead street. They found an extremely ill-looking dog being kept outside. The emaciated canine had untreated wounds, bald spots and ticks, and there was no water or food provided for her.

The dog didn't respond to touch and was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic, where it died shortly after arrival.

Walker faces two felony charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, one misdemeanor count and one summary count of cruelty to animals and six counts of neglect of animals.
