Dozens Of Pittsburgh-Area Dogs Rescued From Deplorable Conditions
One of the canines unfortunately was found dead.
NORTH FAYETTE, PA — Twenty-six dachshunds found to be living in filth were rescued by North Fayette police and Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh on Monday, the animal agency said.
Officials were investigating neighbors’ concerns regarding a home’s unsanitary conditions and the animals’ welfare. Upon entering, officers were overwhelmed by the odor of dog urine and feces.
One of the dogs was found dead.

The surviving canines were suffering from malnourishment, dental disease, matted fur and overgrown nails that can make walking difficult. Several others appeared to have eye infections.
The animals were transported to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh’s East Side domestic shelter. Once at HARP, the animals were evaluated by the medical and animal care teams and given needed care and treatments.
