Electrical Fire Disrupts Pittsburgh T System, Causes Power Outages

An electrical fire on Monday is causing problems for T riders and residents of a suburban Pittsburgh borough.

BETHEL PARK, PA — Red and Blue Line service on Pittsburgh Regional Transit's T is temporarily suspended between Washington Junction and South Hills Village due to an electrical fire that also has caused power outages in Bethel Park.

Transit agency officials say buses will shuttle riders from Washington Junction to South Hills Village. The rail cars that are in service will continue to operate between Washington Junction and the North Side, however no additional rail cars can leave the agency's rail yard at this time.

There is no time estimate as to when service might resume.

Bethel Park police said on social media the is a widespread outage in the northern section of the borough that is affecting homes and traffic signals.
