Former Pirates Player, Baseball Manager Dies

A onetime Pirates player who went on to become a big-league manager has died.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A former Pirates player and baseball manager has died.

Jim Marshall, who played for the Bucs, and also the Orioles, Cubs, Giants and Mets, died Sunday. He was 94.

His death was announced by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

"The Hall of Fame remembers former outfielder and manager Jim Marshall, who passed away Sunday at the age of 94,” the post stated. “Marshall, a member of the original Mets in 1962, was among the first American-born major leaguers to play professionally in Japan.”

Marshall played for the Pirates in 1962.

In addition to his playing career, Marshall managed the Chicago Cubs from 1974 through 1976 and the Oakland Athletics in 1979. He did not have a winning season in either position.
