Former Pittsburgh DJ Dies After Cancer Bout

A former Pittsburgh disc jockey once heard on a pair of the city's most popular radio stations has passed away.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Lani Daniels, whose extensive career in radio had a stop in Pittsburgh before she became an executive for a Jewish organization, has died.

She was 66.

Daniels, whose real name was Ilana Krop Wilensik, died at her home in Gold Canyon, Arizona, after battling cancer.

According to PBRTV.com, Daniels came to Pittsburgh in the early 1980s at for former 93 WPNT (now Q92). She then moved to 3WS, where she stayed until moving across the state to WXTU, a country music station in Philadelphia.

According to her obituary, She also undertook freelance work, creating and co-hosting nationally syndicated radio shows and appearing in various radio and television commercials.

After leaving radio, Daniels served as executive director of the Philadelphia office of the American Jewish Committee, an organization dedicated to the protection and education of Jews worldwide.

A native of Buffalo, Daniels graduated from Ithica College with a degree in communications.
