Fugitive Suspect In MD Homicide, Arson Arrested In Pittsburgh

A man who police say killed a woman and then set her home on fire was apprehended Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A accused of shooting a woman to death in Kitzmiller, Maryland and then setting her house ablaze was apprehended Tuesday by Pittsburgh police.

Nikolas Patrick James, 46, was arrested without incident at around 3 p.m. in the 1100 block of Banksville Road following a BOLO issued by the Garrett County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies on Wednesday responded to a home in Kitzmiller, about two hours from Pittsburgh, for a reported homicide and arson. The found Juanita Katherine James, 70, dead from a gunshot wound.

After an investigation, James, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota was charged with first-degree murder, first degree arson and using a firearm during the commission of a felony.

James is currently being held in Pittsburgh awaiting extradition back to Maryland.
