Giant Eagle Slashing Prices On Hundreds Of Items

PITTSBURGH, PA — Giant Eagle, one of the region's largest grocers, plans to cut the costs of 200 produce items that it contends will result in customer savings of an estimated $25 million annually.
The Cranberry-based supermarket chain said Wednesday that the move is part of a long-term cost reduction plan for customers.
Several examples of the cuts:

- Naval oranges that cost $1.25 now will cost $1.
- Fresh broccoli sold at $4.99 a bundle now will sell for $2.99.
- Avocados priced at $2 now will cost $1.50.
- Chopped salad kits will be reduced from $3.99 to $3.33.
- Seedless cucumber prices will drop from $2.50 to $2.
"In these challenging economic times, we're proud to make the fresh, quality produce we stock daily more affordable and we believe these savings will make a real difference in people's lives," Brian Ferrier, Giant Eagle senior vice president of merchandising, said in a news release.
According to the Food Industry Association’s 2023 Power of Produce report, 58 percent of Americans say they eat fresh produce at least four to five days a week.

The price cuts come while Giant Eagle is in the process of selling its approximately 300 GetGo convenience stores to the Couche-Tard, owners of the popular Circle K chain.
